6 Ways to Eat Healthy Even When on a Budget

When you’re on a tight budget, meal planning and grocery shopping could be quite challenging. Tip #1: Buy Fresh Products When It’s in Season

We’re all aware that fresh products are great, but the cost could also burn a hole in our pocket. However, if we’ll stick with buying what’s in season, and just stock ’em up in our freezer, we’ll be able to save a good amount of cash.

For instance, during summer, you could buy 3-4 dozen ears of corn, especially when it’s being sold for 2 ears for a dollar– or less. Just cut the ears, freeze them in bags or as a whole, and you’ll have a great tasting corn for several months. The same applies for other vegetables.

Also, instead of shopping for groceries based on a weekly meal plan, it’s more ideal to plan your meals based on the ingredients that are on sale. This would help you save a lot of cash and improve your creativity, because you’ll be trying recipes you’ve never even thought of.

However, in case that you’re not a fan of preparation, you could always watch for sales on frozen veggies. Who knows, you might get 10 for $10, and it’ll be the perfect time to stock up bell peppers, onions, carrots, and peas. The result? Even on a tight budget, it’s still possible to enjoy meat. All you need to do is look for less expensive cuts, such as chicken thighs instead breasts and cook them in various methods. Whole grains and beans, such as freekeh, quinoa, and brown rice are very affordable, but tasty as well. They could easily bulk up your meals, and best of all, they could be a meal in themselves.

Why not buy a package of whole wheat couscous, wheat berries, cook them, and just freeze ’em up in single-serve portions.
